Clickatell offers shortcode messaging in South Africa, Namibia, USA, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Shortcode messaging is where a mobile recipient is charged at a standard or premium rate (depending on the country) for either receiving or sending a message; usually in return for content or a service e.g. competitions, news and weather content or for mobile marketing purposes, etc..

Prolonged periods of volumes below the indicated thresholds or no activity may result in re-allocation of your shortcode (if owned by Clickatell) or keyword.

A minimum of 500 inbound (MO) messages per shortcode or keyword per month will be required before Clickatell will be obligated to pass on premium SMS revenue to you. This will be effective after 90 days. If less than the above number of messages are received the revenue for that month will be forfeit to Clickatell. Prolonged periods of volumes below the indicated thresholds or no activity may result in re-allocation of your shortcode (if owned by Clickatell) or keyword. Revenues will be paid to you after 90 days depending on when the operator pays Clickatell.

At Clickatell we pay you the full revenue share, based on the minimum monthly volume required as mentioned above.

Shortcode messaging requirements:

Sign up for a Clickatell API account.
Then apply for a shortcode from within your account. A shortcode (so named because it is shorter than a normal mobile phone number) is the number customers will reply to allowing you to receive messages.

Shortcode SMS Messaging UK

Clickatell offers MO (inbound) standard rate and premium rate messaging (PRM) in the United Kingdom through the use of shortcodes. Premium rate messaging refers to mobile users being billed at a premium/cost every time they send (MO) message.

Five network operators are supported by Clickatell in the UK. These are:

Vodafone UK
Orange
O2
T-Mobile
Virgin
Hutchison 3G UK

The following number types are offered in the UK:

Dedicated Shortcode

An exclusive cross-network compatible 5-digit number.
Examples: 61000, 62007, 85001.
A shortcode of your choice may be available.
A minimum of 500 inbound (MO) messages are required per shortcode.

What does it cost?
Clickatell charges a setup fee and a monthly rental fee. A small switching fee (1/3 of a credit) is charged for all inbound (MO) messages that you receive. Normal fees (prices are available on our website) are charged for outbound (MT) messaging.

Sign up:
Sign up for a Clickatell API account. We will then give you 10 free credits with which to test the service and you can then also apply for shortcode.
